Thanks to an exceedingly poor NFC South and an overall incredibly weak schedule in 2023, the Carolina Panthers will have a chance to contend for a division title and much more.
The Panthers have the fourth-easiest schedule in the NFL this season, per the ESPN FPI. It's only simpler for the Colts, Falcons, and Saints. In the preseason, strength of schedule can occasionally be slightly deceiving, but not in this case.
With games against the Saints, Seahawks, Vikings, Lions, and Dolphins, Carolina will have a difficult start to the season. But after the break, everything goes without a hitch. That is, at least on paper. The Panthers will only play three teams that qualified for the playoffs in 2022 after the bye in Week 7: Tampa Bay (2 times), Dallas, and Jacksonville.
If anything, the best quarterbacks Carolina will encounter in the next eleven games of the season will be Trevor Lawrence and Dak Prescott. Both have achieved success in the league, although neither is currently regarded as a top player. After Week 7, what other quarterbacks will the Panthers face? C.J. Stroud, Baker Mayfield, Derek Carr, Desmond Ridder, Jordan Love, Anthony Richardson/Gardner Minshew, Justin Fields, Ryan Tannehill/Will Levis.
A three-game road trip is typically regarded as a risky part of the calendar. However, the Panthers' three-game road trip in late November/early December includes contests with Tennessee, Tampa Bay, and New Orleans, which is beneficial for them. And if we're being completely honest, the Titans and Buccaneers look like they're about to undergo a rebuild, leaving only the Saints with a realistic chance of making the playoffs.
