Cam Newton discloses a roster of nine NFL teams he is open to joining as a backup quarterback.

Following a hiatus during the 2022 season, Cam Newton is eager to make his NFL comeback in 2023. Newton caught the attention of the NFL in March when he participated in Auburn's Pro Day, throwing to his sibling.

While Newton aspires to be a starting quarterback in 2023, he acknowledges that being signed as a starting QB for the approaching season might not be feasible. Hence, he is now prepared to assume the role of a backup. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Newton not only confirmed his willingness to be a backup but also named nine teams he would consider joining.

"I am aware of the various opinions regarding my NFL future, and I want to clarify my stance," Newton said in the video. "I know there aren't 32 players better than me, but I also understand that I can be a backup, and I am ready for that."

Newton, the 2015 NFL MVP, went on to mention the quarterbacks he would be willing to support: Deshaun Watson, Lamar Jackson, Justin Fields, Tua Tagovailoa, Malik Willis, Jalen Hurts, Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, and Sam Howell.

To summarize, Newton would be open to playing for the following nine teams:

  • Browns

  • Ravens (or wherever Jackson lands)

  • Bears

  • Dolphins

  • Titans

  • Eagles

  • Jets (or Rodgers' future team)

  • Bills

  • Commanders

Newton's list is both captivating and puzzling. He appears to favor supporting a young quarterback as a mentor, while also being open to backing seasoned veterans like Rodgers, Jackson, and Watson. Furthermore, Willis is not Tennessee's starting quarterback; if Newton were his backup, he would join the Titans as the third-string QB.

Additionally, Newton is open to backing up Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, and Anthony Richardson, three leading quarterbacks in this year's draft class. Once drafted, these players will expand Newton's potential team list to 12. Interestingly, the Panthers hold the No. 1 overall pick, which they last used to select Newton in 2011.

Regarding Newton's comprehensive list, the Ravens seem like a plausible option. If they cannot reach an agreement with Jackson, Newton could potentially contend with Tyler Huntley for the top spot.

The Dolphins also present a viable choice. Given Tagovailoa's history of injuries, Newton could see playing time if he secures the backup role and Tua is sidelined. However, Newton would have to outperform Mike White to become the backup quarterback.

The Bears, with only P.J. Walker and Nathan Peterman behind Justin Fields, could be another intriguing possibility. As a backup, Newton is open to mentoring the starting QB, which could be advantageous in Chicago. Fields might appreciate guidance from a past NFL MVP.

With Newton's determination to re-enter the NFL and his readiness to be a backup, it won't be shocking if he signs with a team this year
