The Panthers' remaining salary cap space following the first round of free agency
We now have a clearer notion of where the Carolina Panthers will sail after the first wave of free agency has smashed and settled into shore. Also, we now know how much money they have left over for their next journey.
The Panthers currently have about $16.13 million in salary cap space, according to Spotrac.com. The phrase "at this precise time" should be stressed because offensive lineman Justin McCray and defensive tackle DeShawn Williams' contracts have not yet been made public.
In the meanwhile, let's look at the 2023 cap hits for each of the free agents the team signed this offseason.
TE Hayden Hurst: $3.13 million
S Vonn Bell: $3.11 million
C Bradley Bozeman: $3.07 million
DT Shy Tuttle: $2.88 million
RB Miles Sanders: $2.75 million
QB Andy Dalton: $2.13 million
LS JJ Jansen: $1.09 million
DT DeShawn Williams: TBA
G Justin McCray: TBA
WR Adam Theilen: TBA
The Panthers will probably spend a portion of that money on one more receiver after losing top wideout DJ Moore in their quest to secure the first overall pick. The team has shown considerable interest in Mecole Hardman, Odell Beckham Jr., and DJ Chark.
